Doris Pilkington Garimara was born in Balfour Downs Station, Newman, Australia, on July 1, 1937, and died in Perth, Western Australia, on April 10, 2014, at the age of 76 years, after suffering from ovarian cancer for many years prior to her death.

Doris Pilkington Garimara was the niece of an award-winning Aboriginal Australian woman called Daisy Kadibil who was a member of the Stolen Generations.

Doris Pilkington Garimara was formerly called Nugi Garimara.
