Deepika Padukone competed in national level badminton championships as a teenager before quitting to become a fashion model.

Deepika Padukone was quickly approached for film roles and made her debut in 2006 as the title character in the Kannada film Aishwarya.

Padukone then co-starred with Shah Rukh Khan in her first Bollywood film, Om Shanti Om (2007), which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Padukone received critical acclaim for her performance in the romantic comedy Love Aaj Kal (2009), but this was followed by a brief setback.

The romantic comedy Cocktail (2012) was a defining moment in her career, and she went on to star in the romantic comedies Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express (both 2013), as well as the heist comedy Happy New Year (2014),

Padukone is the founder of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, which raises mental health awareness in India.

She speaks out on issues such as feminism and depression, and she also performs in stage shows, writes columns for a newspaper and is a prominent celebrity endorser for brands and products.
