Is Mandy Patinkin blind?

Mandy Patinkin is a well-known American actor and singer. Mandy Patinkin is currently not blind. However, Mandy Patinkin was diagnosed with keratoconus, a degenerative eye disease, in the mid-1990s.

This resulted in two corneal transplants, one for his right cornea in 1997 and one for his left in 1998.

During a keynote speech at a fundraiser for SightLife, formerly the Northwest Lions Eye Bank, Mandy Patinkin said:

“I spent the majority of my professional career wearing hard contact lenses until the disease progressed to the point where I had to have the operation.”

“I was very blessed by the gift of sight by this young child who passed away and the donor family gave me her eye. I went in at 12 noon and came out at 3 p.m. and the next day they took the patch off my eye and I saw better than I saw as a kid.”

Mandy Patinkin is  known for his work in musical theatre, television and film. He is a recipient of three Tony Award nominations, winning for his leading role in Evita (1980), and seven Drama Desk Award nominations.  He has also received a Screen Actors Guild Award, and three Golden Globe Award nominations.
