Who Is The Current Governor of Massachusetts?

American politician Charles Baker Jr. is the current serving Governor of Massachusetts since 2015.

Born on November 13, 1956, in Elmira, New York, Baker is a Republican who served as a cabinet member under two governors of Massachusetts.

He is a graduate of Harvard University and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, where he obtained an MBA degree.

As far back as the 80s, Baker worked as codirector of the Pioneer Institute in Boston, where he met Bill Weld, who later became Governor of Massachusetts in 1991.

In 1992, Weld made Baker Secretary of Health and Human Services of Massachusetts, and later, the Secretary of Administration and Finance.

Baker is a former CEO of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

In 2014, Baker defeated Democratic candidate Martha Coakley at the governorship polls, and emerged Governor.

In December 2022, Baker was elected president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, succeeding Mark Emmert. His role as president will take effect in March 2023.
