Why did David Guetta sell his music?

Pieere David Guetta best known by the dual name David Guetta is a French DJ and music producer with over 10 million album and 65 million single sales globally, with more than 10 billion streams.

In 2021, Guetta sold his back catalogue to Warner Music for a nine-figure sum.

According to several reports, Guetta made about $100m (£72m) in the deal, which also covers his future recordings.

Music Business Worldwide cited a source which said that the deal was a lot more than the widely reported $100m (£72m) but less than US$150 million.

In a statement after the deal, Guetta said:

“This deal is about having the best people around me to ensure I can keep innovating with exciting new projects, while also working my extensive catalogue and continuing to build my career.”

At the time of the deal, Guetta was the world’s eighth most-popular artist on Spotify.

His manager, Jean-Charles Carré, revealed that several companies expressed an interest in buying the rights to his [Guetta’s] songs.

Guetta’s accolades include two Grammy Awards, an American Music Award and a Billboard Music Award.
