He assumed the position of general manager of the Professional Referee Organization in North America in 2013 and held it until January 2018, when Howard Webb took over.

Walton has also played in the United Counties League in the past. His base of operations is in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire, the community where he played football. He mentions golf and current events as his interests.

Walton officiated a number of important games over his nearly 20-year professional career, including the FA Community Shield final in 2008 and the 2003 Football League Trophy final.
