The National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport Workers, also known as the RMT, is a British labor organization that represents those working in the transportation industry.

Are RMT affiliated to the Labour party?
RMT is affiliated with the Labour Party. The RMT is a member of the Labour Representation Committee, a lobbying organization that seeks to advance conventional socialist ideals inside the Labour Party. Some regional RMT chapters, including Grimsby, are connected to their neighborhood Constituency Labour Party.

In order to create a unified trade union for the transportation industry, the National Union of Railwaymen (NUR) and the National Union of Seamen (NUS) merged to form the RMT.
Alex Gordon serves as the organization’s current president, and Mick Lynch serves as the organization’s current general secretary.
One of the trade unions in Britain that is expanding the fastest is the RMT. From 57,000 members in 2002 to over 80,000 members now, membership grew under and after Bob Crow’s leadership.
