American former baseball player Bobby Bonilla gets paid $1.19 million yearly by the New York Mets.

After a second comeback to the Mets, the team wanted to release Bonilla at the end of the year 1999. He negotiated an annual payment of $1.19 million every year from 2011 through 2035 on July 1.

Since then, July 1 has been termed “Bobby Bonilla Day” in the Mets Fandom.

Bobby Bonilla Career

Bonilla played as a third baseman and outfielder in the MLB from 1986-2001, and retired as one of the league’s best batters.

With an impressive statistical record in home runs, RBIs, doubles, wins and extra base hits, Bonilla made four All-Star selections, and won the MVP award playing for the Pirates.

Bonilla played with the New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, LA Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals.

At some point, he was the highest-paid player in the league, and also appeared in the American League Championship Series in 1996.

After one season each with the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals, Bonilla retired at the end of the 2001 season.

A three-time winner of the Slugger Awards, Bonilla completed his playing career with .279 batting average, .358 on-base percentage and .472 slugging percentage.
