Sinema has a B.A. degree from Brigham Young University, a Masters degree in Social Work from Arizona State University, and a J.D. degree from Arizona State University College of Law.

After a brief experience as a criminal defense lawyer, she bagged a Ph.D. in justice studies, from Arizona State, and an M.B.A. from the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU.
