Tage Nathaniel Thompson was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 30, 1997. He has lived in Orange, Connecticut and Narragansett, Rhode Island.

After his successful freshman season, Thompson decided to forego his remaining college eligibility and turned professional. He signed an entry-level contract with the St. Louis Blues, the team that had drafted him in 2016, and joined their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.

Tage Thompson made his NHL debut in the Blues’ first game of the 2017–18 season, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, on October 4, 2017.
