Rod Stewart had reportedly refused to play Live Aid in 1985 because he didn’t get enough media coverage.

Also, the likes of Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, who are country music icons did not appear in the show either.

About Live Aid Concert

Live Aid was a concert held in 1985, for the purpose of fundraising.

It was organized by Irish singer Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, to raise funds to relief hunger during the famine that lasted between 1983 and 1985 in Ethiopia.

It started out as a movement, coupled with the release of the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” in December 1984.

The concert was held at Wembley Stadium in London, and thr John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, and pulled together hundreds of thousands of people.

The Live Aid Concert was broadcast on live TV across the globe with an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, tuning in from 150 countries.

Live Aid made tremendous impact and for Gedolf and Ure, they were able to “create something permanent and self-sustaining.”

The funds derived from the concert were disbursed to the then Ethiopian government of Mengistu Haile Mariam.
