Wataru Endo is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for and captains Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

Born on Feb. 9, 1993, in Totsuka-ku, Yokohama, Japan, Endo began his professional career with Shonan Bellmare.

He later joined Sint-Truiden but exited the club in 2019.

On 13 August 2019, he was loaned out to VfB Stuttgart until the end of the season.

Endo’s loan spell was successful so in April 2020, Stuttgart signed him on a permanent contract.

On 26 November 2020, he extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart until June 2024.

On 14 May 2022, Endo inked his name in Stuttgart’s history books after he scored the winning goal in stoppage time in a 2–1 win over 1. FC Köln to save Stuttgart from the relegation playoffs and secure their place in the 2022–23 Bundesliga.

Endo was named in Japan’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, although he did not play in any of their matches.

He was part of the Japanese team which made it to the Round of 16 of the FIFA 22 World Cup in Qatar, losing 2-1 on penalties to 2018 finalists, Croatia.
