Warren Gatland Returns As Wales Head Coach Following Wayne Pivac Sacking

New Zealand rugby union coach Warren Gatland has made a comeback as Wales head coach after Wayne Pivac was laid off.

The Welsh Rugby Union had announced the new development, adding that the new deal might see Gatland holding the position until after the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Gatland had first resigned as Wales head coach in 2019, after 12 years, and shortly before now, he served as head coach for the British and Irish Lions’.

“I’m very much looking forward to returning to coach Wales,” Gatland said.

“This is an opportunity to achieve something with a talented group of players in a country so passionate about rugby. A country which made my family and I so welcome, when we first arrived fifteen years ago, and all the time we were there”, he added.

Who Is Warren Gatland?

Warren Gatland is a former player and New Zealand rugby union coach.

Gatland has just been re-selected as head coach for the Wales national team.

Born on September 17, 1963, in Hamilton, New Zealand, Gatland played as a hooker for New Zealand and for Waikato, appearing in 140 games, and making history as one of Waikato’s longest-serving players.

As a coach, Gatland, had first led the Wales team to three Six Nations Grand Slams and two Rugby World Cup semi-finals when he first served as their head coach.

He ended up coaching Connacht, Ireland, London Wasps, Galwegians RFC, Thames Valley, Waikato, Chiefs , Wales, and the British & Irish Lions.
