Gaylord Perry was a professional baseball player from the United States. . He was the first pitcher to win the Cy Young Award in both leagues, doing so with the Indians in 1972 and the Padres in 1978.

He is also notable for being part of the second-winningest brother combination in baseball history, along with his brother Jim Perry, trailing only the knuckleball-throwing brothers Phil Niekro and Joe Niekro.
In 1982, Perry became the 15th member of the 300-win club while pitching for the Seattle Mariners.

Perry was inducted into the National Leadership Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa, at Campbell University in 1978.
According to Bill James, Perry has the tenth best career of any right-handed starting pitcher and the 50th best player at any position.
Perry was ranked 97th on The Sporting News’ list of “Baseball’s 100 Greatest Players” in 1999.
Perry had a 22-year baseball career with 314 wins, 3,534 strikeouts, and a 3.11 earned run average.
