After a late-career high of 12 wickets in six games during the 2003 Cricket World Cup, Akram was Pakistan’s top bowler. Unfortunately, Pakistan was unable to advance past the first round of the competition, and as a result, Akram was one of the eight players fired by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
