Aline Kominsky-Crumb Children: Meet Sophie Crumb

Aline Kominsky-Crumb was an underground comics artist from the United States. Aline was the mother of Sophie Crumb. Sophie, their daughter, was born in 1981.

Like her parents, Sophie Crumb is also a comics artist. Crumb studied acrobatics and clowning at a French circus school after finishing her secondary education in France.

She sold her comics on the street and apprenticed herself to a tattoo artist while living in Brooklyn in the mid-2000s.

She used to make a living by teaching English as a foreign language.  She lives in the south of France with her husband and their son, Eli, born in 2009.

Sophie Crumb’s parents published some of her drawings as a child in their comics anthology Weirdo; she later contributed to their comic book series Dirty Laundry Comics, which ran from 1977 to 1992.

Her six-year-old artwork was also featured in Wimmen’s Comix #11. (Apr. 1987). Crumb created a sketchbook for the film Ghost World (2001).

Her drawings were intended to reflect the personality and inner life of the film’s protagonist, Enid Coleslaw (Thora Birch).

Aline Kominsky-Crumb died at her home in France, on November 29, 2022 according to social media reports. She was 74 years old. Although no further information is available, she died after a long illness.
