Joshua Giddey was born on October 10, 2002, in Melbourne, Australia. Josh Giddey attended St Kevin’s College in Melbourne from Years 7 to 10.

Josh Giddey received training at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra. He also attended UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra at the same time.

In April 2019, Josh Giddey led VIC Metro to the title at the Australian Under-18 Championships where he averaged 20 points, 8.3 rebounds, and six assists per game.

In January 2020, Josh Giddey earned most valuable player (MVP) honours after assisting the NBA Global Academy to win the Torneo Junior Ciutat de L’Hospitalet in Barcelona.

Josh Giddey became the youngest Australian in NBL history to record a triple-double on 26 April 2021 when he recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a 93–77 loss to the New Zealand Breakers.

Josh Giddey represented Australia at the 2019 FIBA Under-17 Oceania Championship in New Caledonia.
