Diane Sawyer is an American television broadcast journalist who is best known for anchoring Good Morning America and ABC World News Tonight for many years.

Sawyer joined CBS Morning News as a co-anchor in 1981 before becoming a correspondent for 60 Minutes in 1984.
She was a co-anchor of Good Morning America from 1999 to 2009 on which she was the reporter who broke the story of the 9/11 attacks to GMA viewers that morning and an ABC World News anchor from 2009 to 2014, when her position at ABC changed to “special contributor” for ABC News.

Sawyer rose to fame after subjecting Mel Gibson to an intense television interrogation following his DUI arrest in 2006. Sawyer left GMA on December 11, 2009, and was set to join ABC World News in January 2010.
Sawyer has interviewed US Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Richard Nixon during her career. She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and won an Emmy, a Daytime Emmy, and a Peabody Award for her reporting work.
