Malik was born on Nov. 22, 1999 in Gujjar Nagar Jammu, the winter capital city of Jammu and Kashmir and made his Twenty20 debut on 18 January 2021, for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Who discovered Umran Malik?
Malik, who rose to fame during the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore where he bowled five balls in a row at more than 150 kmph was discovered by Raman Thaploo.

Malik’s meteoric rise to the top began after his team lost three consecutive games.

At the time, Malik was third choice as Jammu & Kashmir were preffered.
However, fellow Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Abdul Samad, spoke to the team’s coach about Malik.
Samad told the coach — Sanjeeva Chaudhary — about a potent net bowler who had been consistently cracking 140 km/h.
The next day, Malik not only bowled in front of the coach, but impressed him enough to make the U-23 team.
For a glimpse into just how fast Umran was, Thaploo talked about how the youngster had to be taken off of the bowling battery against Assam’s Ranji Trophy squad after his bowling caused their coach to be concerned about the wellbeing of his players.
Though the poor lighting of the nets played a part, the threat posed by Malik’s speed was evident.
