Troy Polamalu is a former American football strong safety who spent his entire 12-year career with the National Football League’s Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL).

Polamalu announced his retirement from professional football on April 10, 2015, citing his family as the primary reason.
Polamalu was reported to be fully intending to play in 2015, but the Steelers forced him to retire.
In February 2015, Polamalu was approached and told by front office personnel and owner Dan Rooney that he would be released if he did not retire.

He was approached by the Tennessee Titans about joining his former defensive coordinator, Dick LeBeau, but ultimately decided to retire after weighing his options. He had 770 tackles, 32 interceptions, and three touchdowns in his 12-year career.
The Steelers selected him in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He was a member of two Super Bowl-winning Steelers teams and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Polamalu has made eight Pro Bowls and six All-Pro appearances.
