Doddie Weir OBE was a lock for the Scottish rugby union team. Weir was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and went to Daniel Stewart’s and Melville College for his education.

From 1988 to 1991, he attended the Scottish Agricultural College and earned a Higher National Diploma.
Weir began his rugby career with Stewart’s Melville FP RFC before moving on to Melrose RFC in the Borders, where he was a member of a team that won six Scottish club championships.
He appeared in 61 international matches for the Scotland national team. In the 2019 New Year Honours, he was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to rugby, motor neurone disease research, and the community in the Scottish Borders.

The Doddie Weir Cup, named in his honor, is a perpetual rugby union trophy for matches between Scotland and Wales, including those played in the Six Nations.
Weir was named the winner of the Helen Rollason Award in December 2019, which is presented annually during the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show.
Doddie Weir passed away on 26 November 2022 at the age of 52, six years after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
