Sue Perkins was born to Bert Perkins and Ann Perkins. Her father worked for a local car dealership and her mother was employed as a secretary.

Sue Perkins came into prominence through her comedy partnership with Mel Giedroyc in Mel and Sue, she has since become best known as a radio broadcaster and television presenter, notably of The Great British Bake Off (2010-2016), Insert Name Here and Just a Minute.

In 2021, she participated in the second series of The Masked Singer as Dragon and finished in fifth place. Perkins again conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra at the first Comedy Prom at the Royal Albert Hall during the 2011 Prom season.
