Late British singer and guitarist Wilko Johnson played the role of Ilyn Payne, the royal executioner, in the season 1 and season 2 of Game of Thrones.

In the movie, Payne was instructed to kill the beloved Eddard “Ned” Stark.

Who Was Wilko Johnson?

Late Wilko Johnson was a guitarist, singer, songwriter and part-time actor.

He served in the 1970 rock/rhythm and blues band Dr. Feelgood.

Johnson was known to play his guitar without a pick but rather using a fingerstyle.

In 2011 and 2012 he was featured in the HBO series Game of Thrones; as well as the BBC4 documentaries Evidently… John Cooper Clarke and Punk Britannia.

The late actor was a graduate of the University of Newcastle, where he bagged a degree in English Language and Literature.

Johnson had co-authored his autobiography titled Looking Back at Me, in 2012.

Johnson passed away on November 21, 2022, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was aged 75.

He had been diagnosed with the ailment in 2013 and had to undergo a radical surgery.
