What was the cause of death for Jackie Robinson?

Jackie Robinson was an American professional baseball player who became the first black baseball player in the major leagues in 1947.

Robinson died of a heart attack on October 24, 1972, at the age of 53, at his home on 95 Cascade Road in North Stamford, Connecticut.

On October 27, 1972, 2,500 people attended Robinson’s funeral service at Upper Manhattan’s Riverside Church in Morningside Heights.

Pallbearers included many of his former teammates, other famous baseball players, and basketball star Bill Russell, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson delivered the eulogy.

Tens of thousands of people lined the route of Robinson’s funeral procession to Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, where he was buried alongside his son Jackie and mother-in-law Zellee Isum.

In his honour, the Interboro Parkway was renamed the Jackie Robinson Parkway twenty-five years after Robinson’s death. This parkway cuts through the cemetery near Robinson’s gravesite.

Following Robinson’s death, his widow established the Jackie Robinson Foundation, of which she is still an officer as of 2021. On April 15, 2008, she announced that the foundation would open a Jackie Robinson museum in Lower Manhattan in 2010.
