Michael Gerson, the speechwriter who penned down 9/11 speeches for former U.S President George Bush, died of kidney cancer on November 17, 2022.

He was aged 58.

Gerson had battled depressive disorders for some time before he was diagnosed with cancer in 2013.

Michael Gerson was an American journalist and speechwriter, who worked as a columnist for The Washington Post.

Born on May 15, 1964, in Belmar, New Jersey, United States, Gerson graduated from Georgetown University and Wheaton College, Illinois.

He had been a speechwriter for the Bush campaign and served as head of the White House speechwriting team for five years.

Gerson wrote the inaugural address, where George Bush, called for nation-building around the world.

Gerson was known to be very exceptional and successful at his job. He was a fellow of the One Campaign, the Center for Public Justice, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

In 2018, Gerson began co-hosting political talk shows on PBS.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Gerson and two children.
