Rick Scott is an American politician who enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970. Scott was in the Navy for 29 months and served on the USS Glover (FF-1098) as a radarman.

Scott received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City while attending college on the G.I. Bill.
He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Juris Doctor degree. On November 6, 1978, he received his law licence from the Texas Bar.
In 2010, Scott ran for governor of Florida. He defeated Republican primary opponent Bill McCollum, and then narrowly defeated Democratic nominee Alex Sink in the general election.

In 2014, Scott was re-elected, defeating former governor Charlie Crist. He was unable to run for reelection in 2018 due to term limits and instead ran for the United States Senate.
Scott defeated Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson in the 2018 US Senate election. The initial election results were so close that a recount was required.
After the recount revealed that Scott had won by 10,033 votes, Nelson conceded the race. Scott took office on January 8, 2019, after his term as governor of Florida expired.
