Rick Scott has been the junior United States Senator from Florida since 2019. Scott attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
In 2010, Scott ran for governor of Florida. He defeated Republican primary opponent Bill McCollum, and then narrowly defeated Democratic nominee Alex Sink in the general election.

In 2014, Scott was re-elected, defeating former governor Charlie Crist. He was unable to run for reelection in 2018 due to term limits and instead ran for the United States Senate.
Scott defeated Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson in the 2018 US Senate election. The initial election results were so close that a recount was required.
After the recount revealed that Scott had won by 10,033 votes, Nelson conceded the race. Scott took office on January 8, 2019, after his term as governor of Florida expired.
