It was adapted for American television by Greg Daniels, a veteran writer for Saturday Night Live, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons, based on the 2001-2003 BBC series of the same name developed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
It was co-produced with Universal Television by Daniels’ Deedle-Dee Productions and Reveille Productions (later Shine America).

Was there supposed to be a spin-off of The Office?
“The Farm” was produced to serve as a backdoor pilot for a proposed spin-off series starring Wilson as Dwight, which NBC ultimately did not pick up.
The episode received mostly negative reviews from television critics, with many criticizing Dwight’s farm storyline and some critics calling it a “Frankenstein episode”.
