He attended Holly Springs High School,vwhere as a junior, he threw a no-hitter, two one-hitters, and four shutouts.

With a record of 0.80 earned run average (ERA) and 115 strikeouts, Rodon earned an all-state title by the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.

Rodon also attended North Carolina State University, where he won the NCBWA Freshman Pitcher of the Year and was named an All-American.

He became the first baseball player to be named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s pitcher of the year, as a freshman.
