Evelyn de Rothschild married Jeannette Bishop, the niece of jet-engine engineer Sir Stanley Hooker, in 1966. In 1971, the marriage ended in divorce.

Jeanette Bishop, 41, died around the end of 1980, along with former family cook and interpreter Gabriella Guerin.

It is unknown how Bishop and Guerin died, what they were doing between their disappearance and the likely date of their deaths a month later, or why the two ventured up into the mountains in snowy weather.

Initially ruled hypothermia-related deaths, the investigating prosecutor concluded in September 1989 that it was a double murder committed by unknown perpetrators using unknown means.
