Sir Evelyn Robert Rothschild FKC was a member of the Rothschild family and a British financier.

Sir Evelyn de Rothschild was born into great wealth. He did not join N M Rothschild & Son’s banking house until he was 26 years old to be trained in the family business.

In 1968, Evelyn de Rothschild was appointed director of Paris-based de Rothschild Frères, while Guy de Rothschild of the family’s French branch became a partner at N M Rothschild & Sons.

In 1976, he succeeded Victor Rothschild as bank chairman, and in 1982, he became chairman of Rothschilds Continuation Holdings AG, the merchant banking group’s coordinating company.

In 1994, he was appointed co-chairman of Rothschild Bank A.G., Zurich, a position he held until 2003 when he oversaw the merger of the family’s French and UK operations.

Sir Evelyn de Rothschild passed away at the age of 91, on November 8, 2022, according to his family.

In a statement, his family said: ‘It is with great sorrow that Lady de Rothschild announces the death of her beloved husband, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, after a short illness.
