Former Irish rugby international Paul McNaughton died at the age of 69, according to a statement issued by Leinster Rugby on November 7 2022.

Leinster Rugby announced his death this morning, describing McNaughton as “the very definition of a ‘sportsman’.”
Irish flanker Stephen Ferris, a member of the ’09 team, tweeted in tribute to McNaughton this morning.
“So sad to hear the news that Paul McNaughton has passed away. An absolute gentleman who will be missed by all who knew and worked with him. Thanks for some great memories,” Ferris wrote.
McNaughton won 15 Ireland caps between 1978 and 1981, having previously played in two FAI Cup finals for Shelbourne and the Wicklow senior footballers.
McNaughton was inducted into the Leinster Rugby Hall of Fame in 2018.
After retiring, he became Leinster team manager and then Ireland team manager between 2008 and 2011, working as part of the backroom team during the 2009 Grand Slam campaign.
