Before being elected in 2016, Piazza fell short of the 75% qualifying vote threshold two times.
Piazza was not elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on January 9, 2013, receiving only 57.8% of the votes cast and falling short of the 75% qualifying vote threshold.
He stated in his book Long Shot that he would address the performance-enhancing drug and steroid rumours. Piazza’s percentage numbers increased (62.2%) on his second ballot, but not to the 75% required for induction.

Piazza failed to make the Hall of Fame for the second time in 2015, receiving 69.9% of the votes required (28 votes shy of the mark).
On September 29, 2013, Piazza was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
