Mauro Forghieri was a mechanical engineer from Italy. Forghieri was the father of Marco Forghieri, Alessandro Forghieri and Michele Forghieri

There are no personal details about his children. Mauro Forghieri passed away on 2 November 2022, at the age of 87.

Mauro Forghieri is best known for his work with Scuderia Ferrari as a Formula One racing car designer in the 1960s and 1970s.

Forghieri designed the V8-powered Ferrari 158 that won the 1964 Formula One World Championship for John Surtees.

The 158 and the Ferrari 1512 shared an aluminium monocoque chassis designed by Forghieri, the first time this technology was used in a Ferrari F1 car.

He is credited with introducing Formula One’s first designed rear wings at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix and designing the first transversal automatic gear, also known as T gear.

Forghieri began designing the Ferrari 312 series in 1966. (consisting of the 312 and 312B formula one cars and 312P and 312PB sportscars).

He also created the first transversal automatic transmission and the first turbocharged engine for Ferrari.

Ferrari won the driver’s F1 world championship four times under his direction, with John Surtees (1964), Niki Lauda (1975 and 1977), and Jody Scheckter (1979). Ferrari also won the F1 world championship for constructors seven times.
