Former boxer, Goran Gogić has been arrested for his involvement in the largest American cocaine burst in history with drugs worth $1 billion. The former sportsman is set to face 30 years prison term and a possible life sentence. This is because prosecutors have charged him with three counts of violating the federal Maritime Drug Law Enforcement Act. One count of these crimes has a minimum sentence of 10 years.

These charges follow the seizure of 19,930 kilograms (22 tons) of cocaine from three commercial cargo ships in 2019 which includes 17,956 kilograms (19.8 tons) from MSC Gayane that was docked at Philadelphia’s Packer Avenue Marine Terminal.

According to sources, the drugs were transported to Europe from Colombia through American ports at night using cranes and nets to hoist drugs onto cargo ships from approaching speedboats along the ships’ routes.

However, Goran Gogić’s lawyer, Lawrence Hashish has shared that his client is completely innocent and the charges come as a surprise to him.

These charges came as a surprise to him. He maintains his innocence, and had come to the US for a boxing convention in Puerto Rico,” Hashish said.
