Mike Potter was a NASCAR driver. He was born on July 4, 1949, in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Potter competed in 60 Winston Cup Series races during his career. Every season he raced was part-time. In 1983 and 1992, he ran 11 races in a season.
Potter raced in the Cup Series from 1979 to 1993 for teams owned by Buddy Arrington, Roger Hamby, Elmo Langley, current Xfinity Series team owner Jimmy Means, Bobby Wawak, and himself.

His series debut came at the 1979 Southeastern 500 in Bristol, where the great Dale Earnhardt won his first of 76 races.

While he did not have much success because the operations were mediocre at best, he did manage ten top-twenty finishes in sixty tries. In 1981, he finished the fifteenth in his career at Nashville.
Potter, 70, won a Super Cup Stock Car Series race at Midvale (Ohio) Speedway in 2019. Gary Shell, Dusty Silvers, Buck Silvers, and Potter’s cousin, Chrissy Adams, were among his Johnson City-based crew members.
Mike Potter died Monday, October 31, 2022, after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
