Hugh McKean, a prominent Colorado Republican lawmaker died on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 55.

Hugh McKean, House Minority Leader, died in his home just days after turning 55, according to an aide. There was no mention of a cause of death. Funeral services are being planned, and details will be released once they are finalised.

McKean’s deputy chief of staff, Roger Hudson, told The Denver Post that McKean had been complaining about pain on the left side of his body, which he claimed was the result of an injury he sustained while working on his house.

Colorado GOP Chairwoman Kristi Burton Brown called McKean “kind” and “positive,” adding that he “took the time to invest in so many lives, including my children.”

McKean was elected in 2016 to represent Colorado House District 51. He was elected Leader of the Colorado House Republican Caucus four years later.

McKean was a Loveland city councilman before becoming a state representative. Before his untimely death, he was running for a fourth term in the upcoming election.
