Dan Flynn was a businessman and rancher from Van, Texas, who served in the Texas House of Representatives for District 2 from 2003 to 2021. He was the father of two children Tammy and Missy.

During his tenure in the House, Flynn chaired the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee as well as the Pensions Committee.
As chair of the Pensions Committee, he was instrumental in negotiating a deal to save the troubled Dallas Police and Fire Pension System from insolvency in 2017.

Flynn was also a member of the Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations, which condemned University of Texas Regent Wallace Hall in 2014 for his lengthy investigations into administrators at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dan Flynn also spent a significant amount of his life in the military, including the United States Army, the Texas Army National Guard, and the Texas State Guard.
He joined the Texas State Guard in 2005 and has served on active duty for the state in response to numerous natural disasters. Governor Greg Abbott promoted him to brigadier general in 2016.
Dan Flynn passed died Friday, October 28, 2022, morning according to his family in a Facebook post. He was 79. The cause of death was not stated in the post.
