The film is based on the 2013 true-crime book the sea name by Charles Graeber about the serial killer Charles Cullen. It is directed by Tobias Lindholm and written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The film also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Kim Dickens and Noah.

The Good Nurse had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2022, and was released in selected cinemas on October 19, 2022, before its streaming was released on October 26, 2022, by Netflix.
