Christine Farnon was the Recording Academy’s first full-time employee and one of the organization’s longest-serving employees.

Christine Farnon had one child. A daughter named  Joanna. There are no public details about her daughter’s life.

Farnon began her career as an event producer for the first annual Grammy Awards in 1959. Farnon worked for the Recording Academy in a variety of capacities. She was appointed executive director of the Los Angeles chapter in the early 1960s.

Farnon oversaw the Grammy Hall of Fame and was an event producer for the 1977 Grammy Awards when she began her executive director tenure at NARAS’s main branch in 1971.

Farnon held the position of executive vice president near the end of her career, from 1989 until her retirement in 1992. Farnon was the first woman to receive the Grammy Trustees Award after retiring.

Farnon was also a member of the local chapter of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the California Copyright Conference, and a co-founder of the first Toastmistress Chapter in Hollywood.

Christine Farnon died of natural causes on Monday, October 24, 2022, in the Los Angeles area. She was 97 years old.
