Interim Police Chief Michael Sack of the St. Louis Police Department identified the shooting suspect as Orlando Harris, a 19-year-old who graduated from the school in 2021, during a press conference Monday evening.

He claimed to have no criminal record and to live on Pennsylvania Avenue in south St. Louis with his family. He stated that investigators are still looking into a possible motive.

During an evening press conference, Sack stated that the quick response to the shooting prevented it from worsening.

He stated that the suspect possessed nearly a dozen high-capacity magazines, each holding 30 rounds. “This is just how St. Louis officers are; they’re not going to hesitate or wait when they know there’s a threat out there,” Sack explained.

The suspect was shot while exchanging gunfire with police. He was taken to a nearby hospital and died.

According to police, eight people were taken to the hospital with injuries. One woman died in the hospital, and a teenage girl died at the school.
