Charley Trippi passed away on October 19, 2022, at the age of 100, in Athens, Georgia.

From 1947 to 1955, he was a member of the National Football League’s (NFL) Chicago Cardinals.

Trippi led the NFL in all-purpose yards, a stat that was practically designed for him, while also handling some punting duties. His stardom lasted into his 30s, with Pro Bowl appearances in 1952 and 1953 before retiring in 1955.

Trippi was the all-time NFL leader in total yards by a player at the time, and he is still the only Pro Football Hall of Famer to have at least 1,000 passing, rushing, and receiving yards.

He was later named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1940s and is one of only four players whose number has been retired at Georgia.
