His parents had named him “Wenyen”, which means “Wipe your tears” in his native Dinka language, because his sister died prior to his birth.

Born on March 26, 1997, Gabriel played basketball at Trinity High School in Manchester, New Hampshire for three years before moving to college to play with the Kentucky Wildcats.

So far, Gabriel has played for the Sacramento Kings, Stockton Kings, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, Wisconsin Herd, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers and now the Los Angeles Lakers.

As an high school student, Gabriel averaged 22.0 points per game, 14.0 rebounds per game, 7.0 blocks per game and 6.3 assists per game, in his senior season.

His collegiate career records 23 starts, 4.6 points average and 4.8 rebounds in 17.8 minutes, all in 38 games as a freshman.

As a sophomore, Gabriel tallied 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 37 games. He led the Wildcats with 40 blocked shots.

The Los Angeles Lakers offered him a two-way contract in 2022, and in the same year, the team converted the two-way contract into a standard contract to last the remaining season.
