Anne Smith Duncan was the wife of Charles Duncan Jr. a businessman, administrator, and politician from the United States.

The couple got married in 1957. They had two adult children Charles William Duncan III and Mary Anne Duncan Dingus.

From 1979 to 1981, Charles Duncan Jr. was the United States Secretary of Energy in President Jimmy Carter’s Cabinet. He was Carter’s United States Deputy Secretary of Defense during the Iranian Revolution.

Duncan had previously run the family business, Duncan Coffee Company of Houston, Texas, for seven years before it was acquired by the Coca-Cola Company in 1964.

Duncan passed away at the age of 96 on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. According to his son, Charles W. Duncan III, the cause was complications from a recent fall.

Duncan served on the Board of Governors of Rice University on numerous occasions throughout his career.

When Duncan retired from the Rice Board of Trustees in 1996, the school named its new computational engineering building after him and his wife, Anne Smith.

In 2007, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June before donating $30 million to Rice in October to establish Duncan College, the university’s eleventh residential college and its first all-green building.
