Carmen Callil Children: Did Carmen Callil Have Kids?

Carmen Callil was an Australian publisher, writer, and critic who worked in the United Kingdom for the majority of her career. It’s unknown whether Carmen had any children.

Carmen Callil began her career as a campaigning outsider, establishing the feminist imprint Virago Press and publishing contemporary bestsellers such as Margaret Atwood, Maya Angelou, and Angela Carter.

She challenged the male-dominated canon of English literature by reprinting several modern classics by authors such as Antonia White, Willa Cather, and Rebecca West, eventually becoming a literary establishment pillar.

She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2010, received the FRSL Benson Medal in 2017, and was made a dame the same year.

Carmen Callil died of leukaemia on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the age of 84 in London. She is survived by her brother Julian. Another brother and a sister predeceased her.
