Noel Duggan a founding member of the Irish folk band, Clannad has died. He was 73 years old. The group announced his death on its Twitter page.

According to them, the 73-year-old died suddenly in Donegal, on Saturday evening.

Clannad was formed in 1970 in Gweedor, County Donegal by siblings Ciaran, Pol and Moya Brenna and their uncles Noel and Padraig.

Clannad’s international breakthrough came when the band was asked to record the theme for the ITV mini-series Harry’s Game, set during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The group successfully bridged traditional Celtic music pop and became the first band to sin in Irish on Top of the Pops in 1982.
