But Marie-Thérèse Kouao and her boyfriend, Carl Manning, abused Victoria at their flat in Tottenham, North London. Victoria was starved, tied up for periods longer than 24 hours, beaten with coat-hangers and bicycle chains, bound naked and kept prisoner in a freezing bathroom wrapped in a bin liner. She was forced to eat like a dog.

Victoria Climbie died of hypothermia on February 25, 2000, at age 8 in London, England.  She had 128 injuries. The culprits were both found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment on January 12, 2001.

In a statement released outside the publc inquiry at Hannibal House, Elephant and Castle, London, Francis and Berthe said: “We are shocked and disappointed that professional agencies such as social services and doctors let down our daughter Victoria.”
