Sally Dexter is the Daughter of Sir Colin Dexter. For two decades, Colin was the senior assistant at the Oxford Delegacy of Local Examinations, which set exams for secondary schools. He retired in 1988 and turned to writing full-time.

Sally is an English actress on stage and on screen. She won the 1987 Oliver Award for the Most Promising Newcomer of Dalliance.
Sally took over the role of Mother Superior in the London Palladium production of Sister Act from September to October 2010.

Sally also co-wrote and created the three-part BBC comedy-drama series Sugartown, starring Tom Ellis, Sue Johnston and Miranda Raison in 2011. On October 7, 2019, it was announced that Dexter will be leaving Emmerdale.
