Prop designers made prosthetic moulds of the ‘normal’ sized actors for Hagrid to carry in order to make Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, appear the size of a half-giant. In the books, Hagrid is 15 feet tall.

Robert Coltrane had to wear special props for the hair, beard, and body for extensive shooting sessions, such as fatsuits, the iconic padded overcoat, and platforms to add height.

Robbie Coltrane began his career in the sketch series Alfresco (1983–1984) where he appeared alongside Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, and Emma Thompson.

Robbie Coltrane is also recognized as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in the James Bond films GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough.
