Following a year with Junior M.A.F.I.A., Lil’ Kim made her solo career debut by making guest performances on R&B albums. She then recorded her debut album, Hard Core, which was released in November 1996.

Lil’ Kim has been regarded as the “Queen of Rap”, and has been nicknamed “Queen Bee” by the media and audience alike. She was a major female force in the rap industry during her time and can be arguably labelled as the queen of Rap.

Several other female artists can contest the title of The Queen Of Rap including MC Lyte, and Lauryn Hill, however, Nicki Minaj is the current holder of the title.
Lil’ Kim’s debut studio album, Hard Core (1996) was certified double platinum and has since sold more than six million copies worldwide.
Lil’ Kim has sold more than 15 million albums and 30 million singles worldwide. In 2012, Lil’ Kim was listed on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music list at number 45.
